Persimmon Privacy Policy
Persimmon is a study planner for students. It keeps your deadlines, class times and notes on your own devices and in your own iCloud account. We do not run accounts, we do not collect analytics, and we do not sell or share data for advertising. This page says exactly what the app touches and where it goes.
What stays with you
- Your library. Courses, deadlines, events, class times, notes, handwriting and imported PDFs are stored on the device and, when you are signed in to iCloud, in the private CloudKit database of your Apple Account. We cannot read that database; only your devices can.
- Backups. The app writes copies of its database and PDF versions of your notes to an iCloud Drive folder named "Persimmon Backups" in your account, or to the app's own Documents folder when iCloud is off. These are yours to keep, move or delete.
- Feed links. The Canvas or calendar feed address you paste is stored in your Keychain and, if iCloud Keychain is on, synced by Apple. The app fetches the feed directly from that address on your device. We never see the address or the feed.
- Calendars. If you choose to import from the system Calendar app, the app reads only the calendars you pick and only on the device.
- Trial and usage. The date your free trial started and a count of AI syllabus reads this month are stored in your iCloud key-value storage so your own devices agree. Nothing else is recorded.
- Notifications. Daily summaries are composed on the device and scheduled as local notifications. No notification server is involved.
The one thing that leaves: AI syllabus reading
When you pick a syllabus PDF and press read, the app sends that PDF (or images of its pages) together with a fixed prompt to Anthropic, the company that runs the Claude model, and receives a draft schedule back. This happens only when you press read, only for the files you picked, and only for subscribers. Anthropic processes the file under its commercial API terms, which do not allow using your content to train its models; we do not receive or store a copy. The request is authenticated with Apple's App Attest, which confirms that the request came from a genuine copy of the app; it does not identify you. If you never use AI reading, nothing is ever sent.
Purchases
The subscription is sold and billed by Apple through the App Store. Apple handles your payment details; the app only learns whether a subscription is active. Manage or cancel it in your Apple Account settings. Apple's own privacy policy covers that transaction.
What we do not do
- No accounts, sign-in or passwords.
- No analytics, crash reporting or tracking SDKs.
- No advertising, and no selling or sharing of personal data.
- No data that identifies you reaches our servers, because the app has none.
Deleting your data
Setup ▸ Start over removes everything the app stores on the device and forgets your feed links, after saving one last backup. Deleting the app's data under iCloud settings on your device removes what is in your iCloud account, and deleting the backups folder in iCloud Drive removes the copies there. Because we hold nothing, there is nothing further for us to delete.
Children
Persimmon is made for college and university students and is not directed at children under 13.
Changes
If this policy changes, the effective date above moves and the new text is posted at this address before it applies.
